![]() Just as often as I have teared up or bawled at spans of Clannad, I have clammed up in bated breath waiting for Kanon or Planetarian to make me feel anything outside of light amusement or intrigue. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of this sort of gamble taken by a writer(s). ![]() That gut punch was □□□□□□□□ to make the reader cry above all else, every other emotion be damned if a given KEY VN's climax did not cause your face to dampen even a little. For enough people, this strike is a whiff and a miss and on that basis the entire precarious purpose of a KEY VN crumbles on a personal level. Unapologetically, and through whatever means of heightening reality that will service its goal, KEY visual novels strike for the emotional solar plexus. KEY as a studio invites a lot of scrutiny, earned or otherwise, for what is assumedly its mission statement. ![]()
